Dune is one of my all time favorite books.
The political intrigue, commentary, and action draw me in each time I read it.
So, when I decided to create some colors from the book, I immediatley knew I had to create one based on spice.
Except, what color?
That turned out to be very hard because Frank Herbert was very careful not to describe spice in too much detail.
I think it's one of the best aspects of the story.
Yeah, we learn about many of its properties, like how it can induce hallucinations in people.
But, for the most part, Herbert never gives us a full description of the substance, just hints here and there.
Well, for one thing the physical appearance is just not that important to the story, it's just a symbol of power and control.
Whoever controls the spice, controls the whole empire.
And just like power, controlling spice can lead to great corruption and abuse.
Anyway, back to the color of spice.
It took me some time to figure out what would be a good color.
Then it hit me, Jessica gave a simple description of the taste: cinnamon.
And I thought, why not? Why not go for a slightly brown color?
And, whenever I think of spice (like the general version, not Dune's spice), my mind goes to brown.
Without further ado, I would like to introduce Spice.
It's a light brown with some hints of red in it.
I think it'll go great with any of earth tone paletter.
Or, if you know a Science Fiction enthusiast in your life, how about a cozy sweater using this unique color?
